African Americans in World War II

 Over 1.2 million African Americans served in every branch of the US military during World War II.

Service members served with distinction in combat and support roles in every theater of war.

Despite inequalities on the home front and abroad, African American soldiers in the Army held roles that included, but were not limited to, pilots, infantrymen, truck drivers, gunners, doctors, nurses, engineers, and paratroopers.
